Paris Hilton arrested in Las Vegas

Heiress Paris Hilton has had more than her share if run-ins with the law, dating back to September 2006, when she was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. She was subsequently charged with reckless driving and received 36 months probation, $1,500 in fines, as well as the suspension of her driver’s license.

Shortly after, she was placed on probation; Paris was caught driving on two different occasions with a suspended license. She also had failed to sign-up for court ordered alcohol education classes. With these strikes on her record, it was determined that she has violated the terms of her probation.

So, in May 2007, she was sentenced to 45 days in jail for violation of probation. After a bit of confusion as to where and how she was to serve her time, she ultimately ended up serving only a portion of her jail sentence, but in several interview after her release, she cited herself as being a changed woman.

Since 2007, it appeared as though Paris had really made an effort to straighten out her “bad girl” reputation, but on July 17, 2010, she was detained and questioned by police in South Africa at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium during the World Cup. It was suspected that she was in possession of marijuana. However, those claims were later dropped due to what was considered a case of mistaken identity. Many people were not buying the “mistaken identity” claim, but, it is not a claim that can be contested, as authorities decided to let it go.

But, in the case of her arrest in Las Vegas on August 28, 2010, there is no chance that mistaken identity can be claimed. Allegedly, Paris was a passenger in the vehicle her boyfriend, Cy Waits, was driving. A police officer pulled the car over because they thought they saw marijuana smoke coming out of the car. Since they were in front of the Wynn Las Vegas Resort, Paris asked that they go inside the hotel for privacy because of the number of people gathering around the scene. The police allowed her to do this, and apparently, when Paris was reaching inside her purse for her lip balm, a small bindle of cocaine was visible to several police officers in the room.

Paris was then arrested and charged with felony drug possession and her boyfriend was charged with driving under the influence. Sometime later, she was released on her own recognizance. As of now, her case has not come up for trial, but there are some reports that state that she could receive a maximum of 15 years in prison for the possession of .8 grams of cocaine.
